Given my abiding passion for ancient civilizations, it is no surprise that I long wanted to visit the ruins of Mesopotamia. And that means Iraq for the most part. For many years it is a strictly no-go region and it is only fairly recently that it has opened up to individual travelers. To my delight, I find that I can get a visa on arrival and wander at will for the most part.
This summer is slated for Iraq, Kurdistan and Turkey (again!) and who knows where else? Stay tuned for stories and photos as I meander my way through.
