Night Markets Galore

Taipei, Taiwan

Aug 2, 2026

Temperatures soaring in the mid 90s Fahrenheit with humidity in mid 80 percent range are not exactly a recipe for blissful wanderings and I have to take little breaks. Darting into air-conditioned comfort of cafes are interspersed with breathers in the green spots dotted around the city. The largest is the Peace Park where even the birdlife has taken to lying submerged in the water.

Come nightfall, the heat abates a tad and the many night markets spring to life. Even big cities tend to go to sleep early in Taiwan; by 8:30 pm the streets are quiet and the shops including restaurants are shuttered. But the night markets are still hopping. There are a plethora of them – Ningxia, Linjiang Street, Longshan and Shilin are just a few.

Some are just a couple of blocks while others spread over several. What a delight to wander and sample! There are plenty of locals out in force sampling the delights as well.
